Mormons and Tinder?

The Urban Dictionary defines ‘Tinder‘ as,  “A popular dating app for college students used on iPhones and androids. In which you select individuals based on your attractiveness to said individual and an individuals brief statement. Its pretty much the most shallow thing in the world. It’s a dating app. Tinder is the McDonalds for sex.” If you haven’t heard of Tinder where have you been the past 2 years? Well, you probably haven’t been in college, don’t have any college kids (maybe you do and they don’t talk to you about this so called Tinder…but maybe you should start) or you probably are in a happy relationship that didn’t involve Tinder or the Internet to find your so called soul mate.

You might be thinking why in the world would Mormons be on Tinder? Aren’t they morally clean and pure? The answer is yes, we are a morally clean people, we believe that sex should wait until marriage. This might sound crazy, but Tinder in the Mormon realm is completely different and by completely different I mean there are no hook ups. Of course there are always those outsiders who ask for it.. but most likely will never get it on an predominately LDS college campus.  In the so called Mormon realm Tinder is used for dates and a term we like to call NCMO’s. NCMO (pronounced nik-mo) acronym for Non-Committal Make Out means to sloppily (or not sloppily) make out with someone you will probably never see again. It is a widely used Mormon term especially here on BYU-Idaho’s campus. So, if you are down to go to McDonalds on an awkward date, you can probably guarantee that you will get a happy meal that includes some dessert in the form of a NCMO, because he’s probably too cheap to buy you ice cream.

Let’s just say there are perks and some large downfalls when it comes to ‘Mormon Tinder.’ This blog will explore all types of Mormon Tinder experiences from my friends, random people on BYU-Idaho’s campus and even some of my own!
